For more than 30 years, Batchelors has led the way in packaging and product innovation to hold the number-one position in the UK's instant soups market.
The company was founded in Sheffield in 1895, when former tea salesman William Batchelor saw an opening in the market for pre-packaged teas and other packaged foods, in convenient cartons. In a short space of time, it became one of the most successful canning companies in the UK. And later, under the drive and ambition of William's daughter, Ella, it became a household name.
Today, over 250 million mugs of its famous Cup a Soup are consumed each year in Britain. The brand has expanded to offer not just convenient soups, but also a wide selection of quick and savoury snacks too.
Additions such as Cup a Soup Extra, with revamped single-serve packaging, have increased its appeal amongst younger audiences too. Other ranges include Supernoodles, Pasta 'n' Sauce and Savoury Rice.
In 2002, Batchelors launched Cup a Soup 'To Go', a convenient way to eat soup on the move. And in 2003, new recipes for the standard Cup a Soup, Granules and Slim a Soup ranges, plus new Slim a Soup Extra for the more health conscious, were also introduced.
